Wow, here we are half way through out 2012 season. It really has been an amazing season so far. We couldn’t ask for better weather and we are also so happy to have such a great staff.

Wood work has started in the new cave, but we still don’t have an actual opening date for it. We are hopeful for this fall, but if not, we plan to open next season with it. Right now we are also forming a plan for a “name the new cave” contest. I have a couple of names I really like, one originates from talking to old employees about it and one from my time that I have already spent in it. I would share them, but one is a little to crude and the other I think could be a winner, so I don’t want to give it a head start.

GIFT SHOP- All I can say is T-shirts, before I took over 4 years ago, the past management didn’t believe in selling them. Talk about a missed opportunity! This year we have reordered The lemon squeeze shirts and most of the other designs we carry now have sizes missing, it must be one of the top selling things here in the store.

FUDGE! This is the 3rd year we have made and sold our own fudge and this year we found a master fudge maker! So much so we sometimes have to reel her back in, since some people really still like some of the basics like Peanut butter and chocolate. This week she made a Red Velvet fudge. It is amazing! Come in and try some of Laurie’s fudge you won’t be sorry, well maybe a little guilty, but not sorry.

DUCKS! In past years I have told stories about our ducks and how dumb they were, this year we are very fortunate to have some smart ducks, almost all have learned that at night it is not safe to sleep on shore and almost all are still around. We also have the 4 ducks from last year, two that have names; Lucky and Chance. Last year we adopted them from a lady who rescued them from a snake breeder, where they were going to become lunch. They came with those names.

THE FUTURE! Well as you now know we will be adding a new cave next year, but we are also still coming up with lots of ideas for the park. Some of ideas are, an interactive playground for all ages, a small water features to help cool down on the hot summer days, to some kind cart races in the parking lot. One idea that has been on the top of our list is a new Maple sugar house and museum with public Bathrooms!

Now onto the personal dirt! Married life has been great, it is great to come home from work and be able to have someone to bounce ideas off of. She also has a fun family and while I love and get along great with my family, her family is a very solid unit. They get together often and I try to visit with them whenever I can. They are great! (yes, this is me sucking up) We are starting to plan on winter vacations and I am also making plans for attending a couple conventions/gift shows late this fall.

Polar is getting to be a full-size dog, he is great and besides for some separation anxiety, he really is a great puppy. Life is great, I have the best job and the greatest back yard! Come check it out!

As a note this is my blog and I write it pretty quickly. My grammar and spelling might be a little off. I proof it a couple of times, but I need to get back to running the park, so forgive me!

It is hard to believe we have been open almost 2 months and we are finally getting to summer! So far we are off to a great start and already are eyeing some of our off-season project for next fall. The next big project will be in the animal area. We have been tossing some ideas around, but none have stuck. We know we will be scaling back on how many pheasants we have and we already have decided not to bring back the Peacocks, since they have such a hard time with our NH winter. We love our deer and we plan on keeping them, we even gave them a little more room and let them have the old peacock cage, which gives them another option for a shaded area. We also plan on keeping the ducks, but from year to year we get some pretty stupid ones. Last year almost all our hatchlings decided that it was better to sleep on land and quickly found out that wasn’t very safe. This year our new ducklings have been much smarter and spend most of their time in the pond and accepting handouts.

I think most early season projects have been completed, which means Deane will soon be returning to our new cave that we have been working on for almost 2 years. Hope is that we will be able to open it in the fall, but you never know, when working with rocks.

We are also just finishing up our last special that we offer until fall. This year we had Mothers free Mother’s day weekend and last Saturday was Military appreciation day where any member of the military and their family could get in for free. To be honest we have been offering this day for 4 years and it just hasn’t grown, so next year look for something different for military personnel. This weekend is our annual Father’s day, Father’s FREE weekend. All weekend long Dads can get in free with any other paid admission. Usually in the fall we will also offer some kind of discount for NH and VT residents, but we never release any info on that till a week before.

The last thing I will blog about is Polar puppy, he is growing quick and at 5 months has ears that can hear a cracker drop a mile away. He is about the cutest thing you will ever see, but heck we know puppies sell! When checking in ask to see Polar, he is usually close by the front desk.

Hope to see you soon!

Another season is underway! This year with the lack of snow we decided to open almost a month early. When we started to shovel out the caves we found about 2 feet of snow near the entrance to the 1st cave, but after that it was mostly clear. After a quick clean-up around the park we were ready to go!

Our first week was a huge success, nothing like opening for April vacation week and being the only real attraction open mid-week. The weather was great as well and it really gave us a great jumpstart.

This year we will be featuring a few new things. There is a chance we might be finally getting close to opening the new cave we have been working on for the past couple of years, but until the rock work is finished we will not know for sure. The next big thing is we are redoing the sugarhouse. The past few years we have found that the gift shop sales were slipping and we felt that was because no one wanted to carry their purchases with them. So, we moved all the jewelry and gifts to the main lodge and are planning to have the sugarhouse fit its name and will have a candy counter and other sweet treats. The biggest sweet treats we are adding are Bavarian Nuts. Wait till you try them, they are really addicting and the smell will draw you in, all the way from inside the caves. To make this work we will also be adding a couple of air-conditioners to the sugar house as well.

The next change is to the Klondike Mines, we plan to go in and open up the room some, but we plan to leave the mines alone for now. Last year the addition of the crystal mine was great.

We do have some plans at the sluice too, but it is still a little too early to give away our changes. Let’s just we have been watching the Discovery Channel show “Gold Rush”.

As for new gifts in the shop, we have added a few new things, like we do each year, but you will need to come explore to see what we got, most of which still has not arrived, but UPS is stopping by daily.

As for me personally it has been a pretty good off-season. Shortly after my wedding, my best friend of the past 10 years passed away, we knew it was coming, but it was still hard. Wiley, was always at my side and he was the best dog you could ever ask to have. In January, we went to Hawaii for a honeymoon/vacation, it was everything we hoped and more, if we could pick up the mountain and the caves and move them to the islands we would never be back! Shortly after we returned we went and picked up our new boy. “Polar” puppy has been with us for a couple of months now and is quickly learning what it takes to be a good cave dog.

Thanks for reading and we look forward to your visit!

Wow it has been a crazy season so far. This year our staff has been amazing, they have gone above and beyond. Our Tripadvisor.com rating is proof. Now we are moving into the end of summer season, with fall shortly behind. The problem with this year’s staff is that almost all of them are in school so as Sept. approaches we lose almost all of them and the college students leave starting next week.

Fudge has been fun again this year. We have some crazy flavors again this year. We tried chocolate covered Pretzel , the salt was good, but the pretzels got soggy. Currently we have a peanut butter banana mix that is pretty darn good and as fall approaches, I am sure we will try some pumpkin pie and apple combinations (not together).

Gift shops buying last year were pretty successful. We are starting to see some of the more popular items disappear. Of course with this economy some of the large priced gift shop items haven’t found the right person yet. It just means we will not be buying those items next year.

Snack Bar- This year we didn’t make too many changes, but did start carrying a line of sandwiches made fresh a couple of times a week from a local store. We still have Kayem Hotdogs, our homemade pizza and basic nachos. Was hoping to purchase warm pretzels this year, but the supplier never came through.

Slush- Last year we purchased a used slush machine. Before buying it we were told that used machines are often worked hard and not going to last long, well they were right and early this summer it started to make ICE not slush, so we ordered a new one and finally now that the slush season is near the end the new one finally arrived and is up and running in the Klondike mine.

Klondike Mine. We know that is attraction is really only fun for a certain age group and are forever working to try to improve it. This year we turned one of the mines into a crystal mine and that has been pretty successful.

Caves- Well not much changes up there, but this year during your visit you might here a some underground construction noise. We are working very hard on clearing out a new cave and hope that if all goes well we will have it open for 4th of July next year.

Thanks for reading and we look forward to your visit!

Welcome to our new webpage. Figured it was time to get a new one. We are getting ready to open for the 2011 season. The rain has not been very helpful, the trail are all very spongy and have made cleaning up the park a challenge. The caves have refrozen a couple of times and we might have to go lay some sand in some key spots to help traction. With the warm rain this week though I am sure the slippery surfaces will melt. The Ice cave is still frozen and will be for some time. The gift shop is starting to get really stocked and with a back room full we will be adding new stuff all the time. The sugar house is starting to become pretty sweet, with lots of new treats to help get you through the walk. Now the problem is getting to the sugar house! The trail between the caves and the sugar house is a little like quicksand, looks fine till you step on it and you are up to ankles in soft dirt.

We here is to a great season and we look forward to your visit!
